the beth ditto afterglow…

DANCE LIKE THERE’S NOBODY LOOKIN
let’s start with the best part (as opposed to the beginning) my wardrobe: I looked like a power lesbian from the 80s – all shoulder pads and leggings with plenty of bling. Shoes that could both give me height b/c i’m enjoying being taller than my lady on occasion and keep me from being crippled after dancing up a storm.

The venue was slammed with every color of the rainbow – with people bleeding into the entry ways! I’ve never seen Terminal 5 that crowded! Murray Hill was the cutest MC too – “We have every kind of LGBTQ in here tonight – and look there’s a straight married couple and nobody’s bothering them!” Where Beth Ditto goes the well mannered gays, straights, and non-identified queer umbrella fringe groupies will follow.

She was in this amazing body suit with tits-a-go-go! I would like to wear something like this if I had the nerve. She looked smashing! And the rest of the band was adorbs and in low key garb like “yeah whatever, we’re a super group. no big d”

when i heard the beat of “Firesign” my brain exploded. i started jumping around and dancing as if … well as if this was real life, and my favorite gay was singing my favorite song!! some girls in front of me didn’t know what the hell the song was (newbies) but i acted like the floor was a spring board. Life after this song would only get worse, right…except it didn’t!!!

Beth then tells us about what she’s been up to (read: breaking up! it’s hard to do yo! Pneumonia! ICK) and then says that this next song is for her neeewwww girl friend (read: person i would like to kill so i can marry her)! Then she rips into “Yesturdays News”! I let her incredible voice and fucking brilliant lyrics wash over me, start dancing, belt out every line, stare up at beth and look back at my lady and think “This is my bucket list. I can die now”

the set list was 99.9999% all my favorite songs (i would have preferred to hear “ain’t it truth” vs. “heavy cross” but whatevs). And now w/ the magic of the internets you too can see the awesome concert that I did – i’m including all the youtube videos i could find and some of my own :)

Note: You may not experience the full effect of the power that is the goddess Ditto, the demi-god Hannah, and the Saint Nathan, because you will not be with your new main squeeze singing all the words at the top of your lungs – alternatively being cheesey and singing 2 each other then fawning over Beth’s awesomeness – breathing the same air as this force of nature, and dancing around like your life depends on it (well maybe that last one b/c the band is that good!).
